Returning for their sixth year in showcasing some of the best well known and emerging artists of our time, the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS) features their Best of America Small Works National Juried Exhibition. NOAPS members from across the U.S. and around the world are juried into this special event and exhibition, and show off a 150 astonishing oil and acrylic small works—no larger than 20 square inches.

“It’s all about collector accessibility,” says NOAPS president, Patricia Tribastone of showcasing an exhibition of small works, “and it’s a little something different than our other Best of America show. We also have some of the top artists in the country exhibiting in all genres: landscapes, still life, portraits, interiors, animals and even abstracts. It runs the gamut for collectors.”
Attendees can expect to see show-stopping figurative works like Pavel Sokov’s bold Taiwanese Gangster; animal depictions like Brenda Morgan’s horses in Drinks with Friends or Lisa Price’s sweet scene of a figure and dog in Devotion. You'll also see Patricia Meyer’s colorful floral still life, Abundance, and landscapes like Liane Whittum’s Beauty and the Beast.

This year’s exhibition will be hosted at Mary Williams Gallery in Boulder, Colorado, with some exciting events and festivities to accompany. The opening week kicks off on May 17 and 18 with the NOAPS Plein Air Paint Out and Competition, starting with a demonstration by premier Canadian landscape artist Denise Antaya at Colorado’s Saw Hill Pond. “Following the demo, participating artists can go downtown or throughout the pond area to create their small works in plein air,” explains Tribastone.

On Thursday, May 18, a gallery tour and discussion of the artwork will be led by Hebe Brooks, Master Member Artist, and Tribastone at 10 a.m. “The Awards Presentation will take place later that day at 3:30 p.m., followed by the Opening Reception from 5 to 8 p.m.,” shares Tribastone. “On Friday, May 19 at noon, the paintings from the Plein Air Competition will be on view at the gallery, and winners will be announced while guests enjoy a light lunch, complements of NOAPS.”
The awards panel of judges for the 2023 show include the aforementioned Denise Antaya, traditional oil figurative and portrait painter Cynthia Feustel, and landscape and nature lover, Tim Breaux.
