CAM acquires Wiley painting
The Cincinnati Art Museum (CAM) has recently acquired The Two Sisters, a monumental double portrait made in 2012 by celebrated American artist Kehinde Wiley. The gift comes from the Ragland family, longtime supporters of the museum. Known for his portrayals of African American and African figures in poses inspired by historical European art, Wiley is redefining the art of portraiture in the modern day. The Two Sisters, which measures at nearly nine feet tall, marked the first time the artist painted women as his central subjects.

Pedro Pedro, Pile of Citrus, textile paint on linen, 63 x 46"
Pedro Pedro solo show
New York City-based contemporary art gallery The Hole is hosting a solo exhibition of paintings and drawings by artist Pedro Pedro from Los Angeles. Titled Pedro Pedro: Table, Fruits, Flowers and Cakes, the show features a menagerie of bright, colorful imagery of decadent food and florals in the artist’s signature style. “The paintings’ muted tonality and soft focus comes from Pedro’s technique of applying textile paint onto unprimed linen,” the gallery notes. “Instead of the paint sitting on top of the white gessoed fabric, these works have the pigment soak into the fibers, dyeing them. The artist paints the image in multiple passes to get these gorgeous colors; from hot pink grapefruit to pea green pickles, deep red lobster or bright lemon yellow.” The exhibition will be on view through April 29.

New Sculpture Garden in Santa Fe
Boutique gallery Dominique Boisjoli Fine Art, located on the famed Canyon Road in Santa Fe, is expanding its outdoor space with the opening of a sculpture garden this May. “After reopening the gallery on Canyon Road just over a year ago, we have been helping our artist sculptors to make it big; now it is time to work big,” says artist and owner Dominique Boisjoli, who has curated a cohesive group of artists working in a variety of mediums that channel the enchanting spirit of the Southwest. “We are excited to present large sculptures in a garden setting with the same homey feel as the gallery.” The extended outdoor space will include works in bronze as well as fabricated, painted and reclaimed steel from sculptors including Chris Turri, Terrell Powell, Barbara Burzillo, Michael O’Brien and Marco Antonio Oviedo II. —
