From October 1 through October 9, plein air painters will gather on Calfornia’s scenic southern coast for the 24th annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational. The 35 invitees, comprised of the nation’s top award-winning plein air artists, will spend the duration of the event painting in Laguna Beach and the surrounding communities, coastlines and canyons. Panel discussions, painting demonstrations and other community-wide activities will be held daily. At the end of the week, artists will submit what they consider to be their best painting for judging and for the Invitational Collectors Gala, Art Premiere and Awards Presentation held on October 8 at Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach.

“Laguna has what every plein air artist looks for—clear and intense light that characterizes the sheer natural beauty of our coastal community,” says LPAPA executive director, Rosemary Swimm. Attendees can expect to find the full spectrum of subject matter and mediums, from seascapes, to landscapes to urban city scenes, nocturnes, still lifes and even figurative works in oil, acrylic, gouache and pastel. “It is pretty much all encompassing,” adds Swimm. “Our event is one of the longest running prestigious events in the country…only the best of the best are invited.”
