Artist Sells Multiple Works After Feature in American Art Collector
After being featured in the May 2022 issue of American Art Collector painter Jessica Gordon sold several works out of Haven Gallery in Northport, New York, including And we are Merely Players, pictured here, for $2,200.
“Jessica Gordon hooked me straight away when I first discovered her artwork at Haven Gallery,” says a collector of Gordon’s work, Nancy Mansour. “She pulled me into her world forevermore with a powerful painting of a young boy conducting a silent symphony within, a look of concentration upon his face fraught with emotion, flanked by a deep green ivy climbing an ancient wall behind. It’s a beautifully compelling composition that cuts right to the emotion of the viewer. As with all of Jessica Gordon’s work, I am grateful to have the opportunity to ponder the narrative, which only confirms the power of art to illustrate both the strength and fragility of the human spirit, the melancholy of the soul and ultimately, the inexplicable faith in the miracle of life.”

Principle Gallery Sells Marine Masterpiece for Six Figures
Only three months after acquiring John Stobart’s R.M.S. Britannia Departing the Icebound Harbor, Februrary 1844, Principle Gallery, Charleston, sold the painting to a buyer for six figures. Born in 1929, Stobart is widely considered America’s greatest living marine artist, drawing from his time as a boy in Liverpool, England, where he came to know the bustling and gritty dockside. Stobart studied at England’s Royal Academy of Art and moved to Canada in 1956.
“With thousands of hours of research and on-site drawings to aid him, John Stobart has single-handedly captured the spirit of the golden age of American maritime commerce,” says Principle Gallery director Frank Conrad Russen. “Through his vision, we can sense what it must have been like to see and smell a busy wharf at dawn or marvel at the presence of ships and stores in moonlight. All who love America are indebted to John Stobart for recapturing and preserving forever the treasure of America’s maritime [history].”
