The holiday spirit is back in full force at Susan Powell Fine Art, with its Annual Holiday Show on display beginning December 1. The exhibition features a wide variety of oils and pastels—80 in total—by 25 award-winning artists. “This is one of our most popular shows and offers exciting choices for everyone,” says Susan Powell, owner of Susan Powell Fine Art. Collectors can explore everything from florals and still lifes land- and seascapes, and even trompe l’oeil.

Kenn Erroll Backhaus, Fresh Snow, oil, 11 x 14
Backhaus’ oil Fresh Snow is a crisp winter scene, depicting a forest of trees.
“A fresh snowfall can bring on a sense of cold crisp air, that air that sometimes freezes one’s airways, but at the same time gives a sense of purity. A dense wooded scene can usually be a vision of chaos, but here we find the snow laden trees and ground give a beautiful, poetic visual cleansing of nature,” he says.
Larry Preston, Pears, oil, 18 x 18"
Pears, by Preston, is a striking still life of pears against a stark black backdrop. He says, “I am always interested in the way filtered light falls on a subject, in this case the sunlight falling on the leaves and the way it passes through the leaves to the pears. This painting is all about the composition for me. I love the shapes of the three pears on the box with the placement of the leaves at the center. I was also drawn to the light falling on the leaves, the pears and the top of the box and the play of that light and shadow on the subjects.”
Kathy Anderson, Blue Hydrangea with Rose Hips, oil, 20 x 24"
