Adding to a Collection
PoetsArtists has hosts its annual Painting the Figure Now exhibition at the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art in Wisconsin. This year’s edition, running through October 30, was curated by Didi Menendez and David Hummer along with guest curators Steven Alan Bennett and Dr. Elaine Melotti Schmidt. The team hand-selected the artwork for the exhibition from hundreds of artists who submitted art for consideration.

In the September issue of American Art Collector we previewed the exhibition, and included a number of images of the available artwork such as Patrice Robinson’s Looking For Place. Robinson creates paintings that “focus on the complex psyche of a person. Using negative space and the cropping of the figure she aims to illustrate feelings of displacement in terms of the physical and the spiritual, hoping to explore why anonymity and distance seem to surround some people.”

When the article was published, a collector who has bought work from PoetsArtists in the past purchased Robinson’s painting through the exhibition showcase on Artsy.com. Menendez, who is the editor-in-chief of PoetsArtists, says the article helped with the sale.
