 Miniature Marvels
Abend Gallery in Denver has reported the sale of a small-scale painting by Marina Dieul using American Art Collector’s Online Exhibition Spaces platform. A collector that was new to the gallery had been browsing the website specifically for a painting with a rat or mouse when they came across Petite Souris 473 by Dieul. The collector fell in love with the painting in the artist’s signature Trompe l’Oeil style. The realistic work is painted as if the canvas is torn at the center and a mouse is about to jump through from the darkness behind.

 Bounty of Blooms
In the March 2021 issue of American Art Collector Santa Fe Editor John O’Hern included the painting Peonies by Wijnand Warendorf in his introduction for our annual Collector’s Focus: Florals & Botanicals. The feature, titled this year as “Florescence,” is a favorite among our readers and often features close-ups of flowers, images of gardens and still lifes. This painting—with a muted color palette and striking realism showing the complexity of peony blooms—drew quite a bit of attention, including from one collector who had seen it in the pages of the magazine and another that saw a reproduction of the magazine spread on the artists’ website. Warendorf, who lives in the Hauge, Netherlands, recently announced the painting was sold by his dealer Galerie Lieve Hemel in Amsterdam. —
