Levin is an atelier trained artist in the classical realist tradition. He describes his work as primarily grounded in realism, but with “a touch of the surreal” at times. He says, “I’ve been part of the realist art exhibition scene for over three decades, [and] my subject matter concentrates mostly on interior paintings and still life.” One of Levin’s works in this upcoming show is a pool hall scene. “It depicts a darkly lit bar on a busy night,” he describes, “a man is paused next to a brightly lit red pool table, pool cue in hand contemplating his next shot.” Another painting in the show, Looking at Rembrandt, is “a view into a large museum gallery in London where a young woman stands transfixed as she looks at a Rembrandt portrait...These works all represent continuations of series that I’ve done over the years. Along with these, I’ll also be including one or two small landscape paintings, a subject I’ve painted only rarely in recent years.”

Born and raised in the South, Lamb moved to France in 1994 to study with artist Ted Seth Jacobs. She eventually moved back to the U.S. to New York City, where she met her husband, portrait artist David Larned. The two lived together in the Brandywine Valley of Pennsylvania where they restored an old farm that became their ideal artist studios. Eventually, though, they ended up in Houston, where currently live. “While I miss the beauty and solidarity of the farm, I enjoy the convenient and culturally diverse outlets here in Houston. We have wonderful museums and restaurants and everything is very close by,” says Lamb. “My subject matter has not changed much since our move, however, I have had lots of fun painting citrus and magnolias from our backyard. I have also found myself painting more Texas landscapes. It’s a huge state with lots of beautiful and different terrains.”
