  Making an Impact

George Billis Gallery recently opened a solo exhibition for artist Shawn Huckins at its Los Angeles location. The exhibition, which we featured in our April 2020 issue, displayed new works from the artist’s landscape series. In each piece, Huckins paints his own interpretation of a masterwork and adds hand painted text across the top to convey different moods and emotions. This show focused on relationships.

“His work is receiving a huge response at the moment—his technical skill paired with the timely nature of his use of contemporary text statements is truly resonating with collectors,” says gallery director Tressa Williams. In early April, she shared, “Three paintings in the upcoming show have already sold and others are under consideration.”

Among the works sold was Huckins’ painting Matterhorn: Only With Us, Love Knows Bounds. This painting and the other two that were acquired were purchased by brand-new collectors.

  An Emotional Connection

A client who has been on Principle Gallery’s mailing list for years recently found a painting that resonated with them and made their first purchase from the Alexandria, Virginia-based gallery. The painting, a seascape by artist Anna Wypych titled Kindness, “had a strong draw for the client because of its absolute beauty,” explains the gallery, “but it also reminded her of her late daughter who loved the beach.”

The gallery continues, “We always appreciate hearing what connects people to the works and it’s certain the client will cherish the painting for years to come when there is a strong, immediate emotional attachment.”
