The ninth annual Realism Without Borders, presented by Vanessa Rothe Fine Art in Laguna Beach, California, will include more than 50 works by 25 top international artists. Hailing from places such as the United States, Germany, France, Norway and Russia, the exhibition “blurs physical country borders and boundaries as well as allows for creative freedom without boundaries within the works.”
Matt Talbert, In a Spiral, oil, 24 x 20"
Participating in the show will be artists such as Dan McCaw, CW Mundy, Derek Penix, Vincent Xeus, Kyla Ma, Michelle Dunaway, Scott Burdick, Susan Lyon, Alexander Kremer, Pavel Sokov, Nicolas Martin, Ray Roberts, Peggi Kroll-Roberts, Jesse Powell, Kyle Stuckey and gallery owner Vanessa Rothe.
Kyle Stuckey, Venice Summer Twilight, oil, 22 x 36"
“Artists from all over the globe can now share their images of work through social media and are influencing one another across borders. This exhibition celebrates those blurring of boundaries of borders, in both the literal sense and the works,” says Rothe. “The viewers will see similar works and styles being created from opposite ends of the globe, finding unity and likeness in the art that is being created.”
Danil Volkov, On the Lake, oil, 8 x 10"
The exhibition will be online and at the gallery through May 30. Alongside the contemporary works of art there will be historic paintings on view from artists such as Oleg Lomakin, Erik Rebane, Eric Borodin, Boris Gladchenko, Boris Gratchev and Vladimir Telegin. This historical aspect of the show expands on the idea of connections through art by showing how realist painting traditions continue, are honored or have developed over the years.
Derek Penix, Blue Koi, oil, 36 x 36"
“The collection ranges from classical academic works to painterly impressionist pieces, where many works boast a combination of the two in the same canvas,” says Rothe. “The international group of classically trained representational artists believe in the successful combination of objective traditional realism combined with expressive and personal subjects, and the work often boasts a board range of tight to painterly styles and strokes.”
Dan McCaw, Textures, oil on board, 24 x 18"
McCaw will have five new paintings on show. The works are a blend of abstract and realism, including Textures, which “pulls inspiration from Gustav Klimt.” Design and layout are integral parts of his work. There will also be four new European scenes by Stuckey, who is the newest artist to the Realism Without Borders group, while Talbert’s painting In a Spiral shows stunning realism with purposeful blurred edges and boundaries. –
