Life Work

A solo exhibition at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center in Clarksville, Tennessee, delves into the stunning artwork of Seattle-based artist Juliette Aristides. A painter of the realist tradition, Aristides is the author of several books, including Classical Drawing Atelier: A Contemporary Guide to Traditional Studio Practice and Lessons in Classical Painting, and is also vice president and co-founder of the Da Vinci Initiative. The exhibition, titled Life Work: The Art of Juliette Aristides, will be on view through the end of March.

Five new monumental installations have been set up in the Theatre District and Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza in New York City. The over 12½-foot-tall sculptures, created by esteemed New York-based sculptor Jim Rennert, depict ideas surrounding corporate success and the trials faced by the everyday working-class person. The sculptures will remain on view to the public throughout 2021 and 2022.

Preserving important narratives

An exhibition and sale running through February 28, presents powerful works from both emerging and mid-career Black artists. Organized by GoodGirlPR and Sugarcane, the show, titled INVISIBLE, shines a spotlight on artworks that convey both a passion and commitment to art, as well as a deep love and appreciation for Black culture. The exhibition aims to preserve the narratives of communities often underrepresented within society and strives to provide a platform for talented Black artists to express their creativity.

Girlhood

Mary Ellen Mark: Girlhood showcases nearly 30 images of girls and young women by iconic modern photographer Mark from throughout her career. The photographs, which capture everything from children on the streets of Seattle, to circus performers in India, come from a recent donation of more than 160 of Mark’s photographs from members of the Photography Buyers Syndicate. The exhibition is held from March 3 to July 11 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. —
