Supporting Artists

About 12 years ago, Bill and Mary Weinaug purchased an old marina in Central Florida and transformed it into “a place where the community and visitors alike can learn about sustainability in a hands-on, exciting and fun way.” Today it is called Wekiva Island and is home to Gallery CERO and the Wekiva Paint Out. For 2020, with the event having to move to a virtual format in light of the pandemic, The Great American Paint In was formed.

Bill Weinaug says on the Paint In website, “We are making history and I believe we must take on a bigger mission to document what is happening in America during these unprecedented times. Our vision for this project is to build a marketplace where America’s greatest artists can share their 2020 world pandemic experience through their art. We will strive to collect and make this art available to the world through this website, and ultimately share it in a beautifully published tabletop book. The book will document this journey in American history through the eyes of our country’s best artists for all generations to come.”

One of the artists who participated in The Great American Paint In was Dottie Leatherwood, whose work Passing Time recently sold. The buyer previously had bought paintings from the artist and was interested in purchasing more art when she heard about the Paint In. The collector says, “I want to participate in helping artists during this time, and this project seems worthy.”

New Home, New Art

Located in Marietta, Georgia, dk Gallery represents the artwork of mixed media artist Holly Irwin, who creates colorful florals and figures that have abstracted patterns and shapes. A couple who has purchased artwork by the artist before connected with the gallery to discuss Irwin’s 30-by-30-inch painting Merci Mon Amour, which depicts a vibrant blue bouquet. The gallery had many inquiries on the work prior to it selling to the collectors who were buying the work for their new home.

“We are thrilled that Holly’s new painting is ours,” the collectors share. “We are building a new home in Nevada and this piece will go in our master bedroom.”

Gallery owner Donna Krueger adds, “We are grateful to be very busy these days shipping works around the world. Art brings joy now more than ever!” —
