Hannah Faith Yata’s latest paintings weave “the parallels of the unconscious with the struggle of the natural environment,” with the female body representing the spirits of nature. These women often wear masks to evoke “something ritualistic, animalistic, otherworldly and spiritual.” The figures—with primitive symbols and otherworldly energy—are placed within surrealistic landscapes that have tension and beauty.
